July 31, 2022

Multiple 9-1-1 calls for heavy smoke and falling ash were received. Firefighters arrived to find between 1/4-1/2 acre burning and asked for tankers from Carolina fire to respond to assist with bringing additional water to the scene.
Due to the severe drought and classic summer burn pattern of burning deep into the ground, approximately 15,000 gallons of water with foam were used over approximately 3 hours to put the fire out.
Please remember the lower end of the state is in the extreme fire weather index. One spark can smolder a while before taking off unexpectedly. As a reminder, there will be no burning permits issued in Hope Valley until we get some significant rainfall to prevent forest fires.
Thank you to the great folks who dropped off cold beverages for our firefighters while they worked in very hot temperatures to put the fire out.
