| ROCKVILLE — A one-car accident claimed the life of a Warwick man on Friday night.
According to Hopkinton police, 24-year-old Joseph Clunan was traveling east in the area of 329 Spring St. (Route 138), when he lost control of his vehicle, veered off the road and hit a utility pole broadside. Patrolman Ryan Percival was first on the scene and found Clunan alive, but seriously injured.
Calls reporting the accident were received at about 10:53 p.m.
Chief Frederick A. Stanley of the Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire Department said his department responded to the accident and extricated Clunan from the vehicle. A Life Star helicopter was requested to transport Clunan to an area hospital, but Stanley said he was told the helicopter couldn't fly because of inclement weather.
Clunan was transported to The Westerly Hospital by the Hope ValleyAmbulance Squad, where he died of his injuries.
Hopkinton police say the accident is still under investigation; speed and road conditions are believed to be factors in the crash. |
