Using an air tight metal can can help to prevent the coals from escaping until they are out entirely. Be sure to only dispose of ashes in a safe places to prevent a fire. Cans of ashes are known to produce carbon monoxide as well so keep them outdoors and away from the home. A clean stove, seasoned firewood and a clean chimney dramatically reduce your likelihood of a chimney fire.
