There may be some discoloring (rust color) of the water during the testing which is completely normal. To clear up the discolor, run the water for a bit and it clears up quickly.
Hydrant testing is conducted to ensure proper operation of the hydrant and no obstructions. Hydrants that are used less frequently are allowed to flow a moment to work the interval valves for readiness when needed.
