A mid-day fire on Old Mountain Trail damaged a barn and killed an unknown number of fowl, authorizes said Friday.
Carolina Fire Department Chief Scott W. Barber said fire crews were called around 11:45 a.m. on Friday to a barn at 28 Old Mountain Trail. They arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming out from the roofline.
The fire's cause remained under investigation Friday afternoon, and the state Fire Marshal's Office was at the scene.
Preliminarily, Barber said, "It appears the fire started around the wood stove."
He said the fire likely spread to hay stored on the barn's second floor and to the roof.

Units: Engine 913 and Tanker 916
