Burning Laws and Permits

Obtaining Burn Permits

To obtain a burning permit, please call the station at (401)539-2229 from 8am to 4pm. Note: Burning Permits will not be issued on Red Flag Days.

 

Definition

 

The term open fire as used in this chapter shall be held to mean any fire from which the products of combustion are emitted directly into the open air without passing through a stack or chimney.

Open burning restricted

No Person shall burn any material in an open fire within the town except as follows:

Those open fires the regulation of which has been expressly reserved to the state director of health.

Those open fires used for outdoor cooking, and bona fide campfires, provided such fires are contained in such  a manner that they do not cause noxious emissions upon the property of others.

Those open fires for which permits have been issued by authorized agents of the state department of natural resources, pursuant to G.L. 1956, § 2-12-9, provided such fires do not cause noxious emissions on the property of others.

Penalty for violations.

Every person violating any provision of this chapter shall be fined not more than fifty dollars ($50.00).
