|Passing of Retired Deputy Chief John Rekowski

The Hope Valley - Wyoming Fire District regrets to announce the passing of Deputy Chief John Rekowski. John joined the department in 1968, rising to the rank of First Deputy Chief, a role which he retired from in 2003. Deputy Chief Rekowski was always a pleasure to work with and had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. John will be deeply missed. Please join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to his family. A celebration of life will be celebrated at 2 pm on January 6, 2023, at the Alton Fire Station located at 350 Church Street, Wood River Junction.
John Allen Rekowski, 72, of Hopkinton, RI died suddenly on December 4, 2023 at the Westerly Hospital after a courageous battle with kidney disease. He was the companion of the late Sally Tisdale.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 20, 1950 he was the son of the late John Joseph Rekowski and Lorraine (Reynolds) Rekowski.
John was employed as an oil technician for the former HC Woodmansee and Sons Oil Co. and for his families business Valley Heating and Cooling.
Mr. Rekowski was a member of both the Hope Valley Wyoming Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as the assistant Chief for many years before retiring and joining the Ashaway Fire Department were he was still an active member.
He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Teresa Rekowski-Grills, Crystal Rekowski and Son-in-law Peter Grills Jr. He was the loving grandfather of Peter J Grills, Cailynn T Grills, Julian E-L Miles, Lilyanna S Rekowski, Gabriel A Powell and Great grandsons Ezra C Grills and Kaden I-L Cross.
He also leaves his brothers and sisters, Tom Rekowski wife Marsha, Carol Page, Peggy Luther husband Ed, Joe Rekowski, Mike Rekowski, Donna Rekowski He was pre deceased by his two brothers, Robert and William Rekowski.
Per the request of the family burial services will be private.
