Wires Down on Spring Street

By LARRY ST. PIERRE / The Sun
October 8, 2009

High winds caused a large maple tree branch to strike power lines on Spring Street (Route 138) in Hope Valley early Wednesday afternoon — throwing down a live, 7,200-volt line that closed the roadway from Maple Street to Saw Mill Road for a short time, according to Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire District Chief Fred Stanley. National Grid and Rhode Island Department of Transportation officials responded to the scene. No property damage was reported, though Stanley said the live wire burned a section of asphalt near 51 Spring St., which will need repair.
