RICHMOND -- Five people, some with very serious injuries have been transported by ambulance to Rhode Island hospitals after a mini van overturned on I-95 at Exit 4 shortly before 10 a.m. It is unclear how many, but some of the passengers were thrown from the vehicle.

First responder Hope Valley-Wyoming Fire Department Chief Fred Stanley immediately called for Lifestar but was informed that the air ambulance was not flying due to weather conditions. Ambulances from several local communities were transporting the injured. The most seriously injured may have had to make a stop at Kent Hospital in Warwick to be stabilized before going on to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. The ages of the victims have not been released at this time.
