Just after 05:30AM Friday, firefighters from Hope Valley, Ashaway and Carolina were dispatched to Skunk Hill Rd. for a possible structure fire. Within a minute of being dispatched Car 901 (District Chief Lee) arrived on scene, confirming a working house fire, with a well involved 2 story wood frame dwelling. Soon after, Engine 914 took the driveway and stretched three 2" attack lines in a defensive mode, due to the heavy fire load. A fourth attack line was stretched as the second due engine (Engine 912) arrived, finally bringing the fire under control. Tankers were called in from Ashaway, Carolina, Charlestown, Exeter and West Greenwich to assist in water supply, as there are no fire hydrants in the area. An engine from the North Stonington Fire Department was called into our head quarters to establish a water supply. Firefighters remained on scene for several hours chasing hot spots and assisting the fire marshal in his investigation.
